Music @ St. Mark’s

The Pipe Organ at The Church of St. Mark Lutheran

Our organ bears the creative imprint of one of North America’s most famous organ builders, Walter Holtkamp (1874-1962). In 1855 G.F.Votteler founded an organ building company in Cleveland, Ohio. It was passed to the Holtkamp’s (father & son, Walter) in 1931. Under the leadership of Walter Holtkamp, the company became famous, leading the way during the organ reform movement in North America.

The
organ displays a plate declaring that the instrument was built according to the specifications of Walter Holtkamp. He was directly involved in it’s creation along with Bert Keates (b.1909) of Keates-Geissler Pipe Organs. Originally a single manual instrument, it has been enlarged to it’s current state under the guidance of the original builders.
